Abuakwa South MP Backs Bawumia for NPP Flagbearership

Published:

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, has thrown his weight behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.

Dr. Agyeman is among 15 NPP MPs from the Eastern Region who have openly endorsed Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, describing him as the most formidable option to secure victory for the party.

Speaking in an interview, the lawmaker said the decision reflects the aspirations of their constituents.

“We strongly believe that history will be fair and kind to Dr. Bawumia. He’s the only person who can win the 2028 elections for us. We have the mandate of our people to support Bawumia. There’s an overwhelming majority of our people endorsing Bawumia,” Dr. Agyeman stated.

Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President from 2017 to 2025, faces competition from other prominent NPP figures, including former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
