NAPO Reaffirms Loyalty to Bawumia: “Being an Ingrate Doesn’t Pay”

Published:

Former running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday, August 26, Dr. Prempeh dismissed speculations about wavering loyalty, declaring that his allegiance to Dr. Bawumia remains unshaken.

“I still support Bawumia 100%. Being an ingrate doesn’t pay,” he stressed, adding that his selection as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate in the 2024 polls was a profound gesture of trust.

Dr. Prempeh revealed that despite strong lobbying by some influential NPP figures against his nomination, Dr. Bawumia stood firm in choosing him as his partner.

“There are some bigwigs who even went to Bawumia to tell him not to choose me, but he still picked me. I am not an ingrate,” he said.

Addressing questions about his political ties with other party stalwarts, particularly former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Prempeh described him as a “friend and big brother,” but clarified that his political allegiance remains firmly with Dr. Bawumia.

Looking ahead, NAPO suggested that any future running mate decisions would be solely at the discretion of Dr. Bawumia.

“If after he [Bawumia] wins again, he should go and think deeply about who he wants to make running mate,” he remarked.
