Mahama’s Gov’t Is Becoming Unpopular Much Faster Than Expected — Frank Annoh-Dompreh asserts

Published:

The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has launched a scathing attack on the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming the administration of President John Dramani Mahama has rapidly lost public confidence due to poor governance and worsening economic conditions.

Speaking at a workshop organised for the New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus at the Accra City Hotel on Monday, Annoh-Dompreh said the NDC government had become “unpopular even faster than we anticipated.”

“I dare say that the NDC government has become unpopular even faster than we anticipated, and it did not take long for their shallowness to be exposed at every level,” he stated.

The Minority Chief Whip accused the government of failing to effectively manage the economy and worsening hardship for ordinary Ghanaians.

According to him, the return of persistent power outages, popularly referred to as “dumsor,” demonstrates that governance challenges cannot be resolved through rhetoric alone.

“The return of economy crippling dumsor shows that problems are not solved by promises, but by deliberate efforts to improve a system,” he said.

Annoh-Dompreh further alleged that the government dismantled systems established by the previous administration shortly after assuming office.

He also criticised the government over recent cocoa producer pricing decisions, describing them as deceptive and harmful to cocoa farmers.

“The recent cocoa producer-price reduction may well be the biggest deceit devised by the NDC government,” he claimed, adding that cocoa farmers remain vulnerable because of their heavy reliance on farming incomes.

He said the Minority had already called on government to immediately cushion cocoa farmers against worsening economic difficulties.

“We cannot sit back while the cocoa farmer is wailing, the teachers and nurses are wailing, public servants are wailing and market women are wailing,” he stressed.

“This is the reflection of the scam of the NDC government.”

Despite the NPP’s defeat in the last general election, Annoh-Dompreh expressed confidence in the opposition caucus, insisting it had regrouped and repositioned itself strongly ahead of the 2028 elections.

According to him, the caucus had “bounced back stronger, more agile, well informed, and indeed ready to take on 2028 with tactics and strategies that will marvel our counterparts.”

He described the opposition bloc as the “Mighty Minority” and commended Minority MPs for sustaining pressure on the government both inside and outside Parliament.

“Though our numbers are few now, we have endeavoured to assert the great will of the people of Ghana in demanding proper governance from the Executive,” he noted.

Annoh-Dompreh also accused the government of politicising discussions surrounding the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 financial statement in an attempt to divert public attention from what he termed weaknesses in the administration.

He urged Minority MPs to intensify scrutiny of the government and continue exposing what he described as failures in governance.

“Millions of Ghanaians deserve to know the true nature of their government in order to make the right decision of leadership,” he said.

The workshop brought together Minority MPs, party executives and resource persons ahead of Parliament’s resumption this week.
