Ghanaian socialite and internet personality Abu Trica, known privately as Frederick Kumi, has been released from police custody after successfully meeting his stringent GH¢30 million bail conditions in connection with an ongoing U.S. extradition case over alleged cyber fraud and romance scam activities.
His release follows weeks of legal uncertainty after the Accra High Court granted him bail with two justified sureties, a condition his legal team initially described as excessively difficult to satisfy. The court-imposed terms reportedly delayed his release as efforts were made to secure suitable guarantors capable of meeting the financial requirements.
According to sources close to the proceedings, Abu Trica’s lawyers subsequently filed an application before the court seeking a review and variation of the bail conditions. The defense argued that the original terms were too restrictive and could undermine his constitutional right to bail despite the presumption of innocence.
Following further legal engagements, the socialite was finally able to fulfill the revised conditions, paving the way for his release from custody and reunion with his family.
The high-profile case has generated widespread public attention both in Ghana and abroad due to the serious nature of the allegations and Abu Trica’s strong social media presence. U.S. authorities are reportedly seeking his extradition over alleged involvement in an international cybercrime and romance fraud syndicate said to have targeted victims through online platforms.
Despite his release, legal experts indicate that the extradition proceedings remain active, and Abu Trica is expected to continue appearing before the court as the matter progresses through Ghana’s judicial system.
Neither Abu Trica nor his management team has publicly commented in detail on the allegations since his release. However, supporters of the socialite have taken to social media to celebrate his freedom, while others continue to closely monitor developments in the ongoing extradition battle.
