Ashanti Region Shows Massive Support for Dr. Bawumia

Published:

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has received a major boost in the Ashanti Region as he seeks re-election to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the party’s internal presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

During a recent tour of the region, Dr. Bawumia has garnered overwhelming support from a significant bloc of internal party leadership, including polling station, electoral area and constituency executives. The endorsements are seen as a strong signal of confidence in his leadership at a critical moment for the party.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, also reaffirmed his backing for Dr. Bawumia. In a formal directive, he instructed all regional party structures to fully mobilise and support the Vice President’s tour of the region.

Despite being physically absent from some campaign activities due to court obligations, Chairman Wontumi described his commitment to Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy as “unshakable,” urging party members to rally behind him.

Further consolidating support, Hajia Samira Bawumia, wife of the Vice President, embarked on a high-profile campaign tour across parts of the Ashanti Region. She engaged delegates in key constituencies, including Manhyia South, appealing for unity and support for her husband’s bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

Her engagements were met with enthusiasm from delegates, reinforcing the strength of the Bawumia campaign in the region.

With the January 31 primary fast approaching, the growing wave of endorsements from the Ashanti Region positions Dr. Bawumia as a strong contender as the NPP prepares to choose its next flagbearer.
