Bawumia challenges NDC Minority MPs to win elections if they want to form the majority in Parliament. The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, made this assertion after the Supreme Court ordered the stay of execution regarding the Speaker’s ruling on vacant seats. This was after the Majority Leader, Afenyo-Markin filed a suit at the Supreme Court against the petition filed by Haruna Iddrisu.

Speaking on the campaign platform in the Eastern Region, Dr Bawumia said “just yesterday they had the 24-hour majority, the 24-hour majority the shortest-lived majority that I know of in history. If you want the majority,  come to the polling stations, the constituency, win an election, and then go to parliament, you can’t stay in parliament and manufacture majority for yourselves,”

Dr. Bawumia challenges the NDC to step up their game, emphasizing the importance of winning legitimate elections instead of relying on parliamentary maneuvering. The four seats which included; Agona Central, whose MP, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who is NPP MP but filed to contest as an independent candidate in the coming elections. Kwadwo Asante, the current NPP MP for the Suhum constituency in the Eastern Region, who has also filed to run as an independent candidate. Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, who entered parliament as an independent candidate candidate but filed to contest on the ticket of NPP. Peter Akwasi Acquah who is also the current NDC MP for Amenfi Central but has filed to contest as an independent candidate.

The former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu had petitioned the Speaker to declare the seats vacant by invoking Article 97 (1)(g) of the Constitution which stipulates that a lawmaker must vacate their seat if they leave the party under which they were elected or attempt to remain in Parliament as an independent candidate.
