The Member of Parliament for Damongo, John Abu Jinapor, has called on delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reward former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for what he described as years of loyal service, sacrifice and commitment to the party.
According to Mr. Jinapor, Dr Bawumia’s political journey within the NPP reflects deep personal and professional sacrifice, noting that the former Vice President chose party service over a potentially illustrious international career.
“The NPP rewards leaders based on service, sacrifice, and loyalty. Dr Bawumia has truly toiled for this party,” the former Lands Minister said.
He added that Dr Bawumia possessed the credentials to excel on the global stage but deliberately committed himself to the party’s cause.
“Dr Bawumia could have been a distinguished international public servant. He could even have risen to the level of a UN Secretary-General, but he sacrificed all that for the NPP,” Mr Jinapor stated.
The Damongo MP made the remarks when Dr Bawumia’s campaign team visited the Bantama Constituency as part of engagements ahead of the party’s internal election scheduled for Saturday.
Hon. Jinapor also highlighted what he described as sustained political attacks against the former Vice President, arguing that no other contemporary figure in the party has faced similar levels of vilification while remaining focused and committed.
“Beyond the older generation of politicians, there is no one who has been vilified as much as Dr Bawumia. Even in this primary, you can see how he is being attacked,” he said.
Addressing delegates, Mr Jinapor urged them to assess Dr Bawumia’s vision for the country, his humility, commitment to party unity and focus on national development, and to support his bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
He further cautioned against the use of tribal and ethnic sentiments in the contest, warning that such tactics could undermine the party’s cohesion.
Mr Jinapor stressed the importance of maintaining the longstanding political alliance between the Northern and Ashanti regions.
“Ashanti and Northern Ghana are one. We have always stood together. Let us show that same unity in this election. If Dr Bawumia is on the right course, then he deserves the support of Ashantis,” he said.
He concluded by pledging strong backing for Dr Bawumia in the Damongo constituency and expressed confidence that the former Vice President would secure a decisive victory in Bantama.
