NPP flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to begin a major campaign tour of the five northern regions as he intensifies efforts to galvanise support ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
The tour, which covers the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, North East, and Savannah Regions, is expected to rally delegates, grassroots supporters, traditional leaders, and opinion leaders as Dr. Bawumia seeks to strengthen his base in a part of the country widely regarded as his political stronghold.
Dr. Bawumia is scheduled to meet with constituency executives, youth groups, women’s wings, and key stakeholders to outline his vision for the party and the nation. His campaign team says the tour will allow him to articulate his policy direction on job creation, economic transformation, digitalisation, and social interventions—areas he has consistently championed.
The Vice President, who has long enjoyed strong popularity in the northern zones, is expected to leverage the region’s deep political and cultural ties to consolidate his lead in the race. Supporters believe his roots, coupled with his track record in public service, give him an edge as the NPP gears up for a competitive internal contest.
Dr. Bawumia’s northern campaign follows earlier tours in the Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions, signalling a nationwide strategy aimed at securing overwhelming delegate support.
The NPP is expected to make a final decision on its 2028 presidential candidate in the coming months, with Dr. Bawumia widely considered one of the frontrunners. His northern tour is expected to play a key role in shaping the momentum and narrative ahead of the primaries.
