Bawumia promises new regulatory mining policies, mineral development bank

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said he will roll out new policies to regulate mining in the country. The new policy he plans on implementing when given the nod, according to the flagbearer, will include the involvement of chiefs in the mining concession process.

Addressing the people of Ntoboroso in the Atwima Mponua Constituency as part of his Ashanti Region campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia added that he will facilitate the setting up of a mining bank. He also assured the people about mineral development bank, a bank for miners so that you can do proper responsible mining as we have set up Agric development bank for farmers. ,

“We are going to allow the Geological Survey Department to bring all their maps to show us areas where gold is, so that we will not do trial and error to start with, so that we can set up community mining schemes. So that we will license the miners so that nobody can come and tell you that you are not allowed to do this, you will be licensed according to the law as long as you mine responsibly,” he assured.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also spoke about reducing food importation through an agriculture mechanisation system under his presidency.

“Today when you check Ghana, the rice that we import has reduced by 45 percent and if by God’s grace we adopt this system, it will not be long Ghana we will not import rice again.

” We will be self-sufficient in rice, so that the benefit from planting for food and jobs will be realized,” the NPP flagbearer said.
