NPP Machinery Activated As Polling Station Elections Begin Nationwide.

Published:

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its readiness to commence nationwide polling station elections scheduled from Sunday, May 10, to May 16, 2026, even as court injunctions disrupt the process in some constituencies.

Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed said the party’s internal machinery is fully in place, with positive signals from constituencies across the country.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Saturday, May 9, Mr Mohammed expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness, insisting that no region has reported challenges that could derail the exercise.

“No report from any particular place is indicative that they are not ready. Everybody is ready, all the committees are ready, the constituencies are giving us feedback on the ground and everything is solid,” he stated.

The polling station elections form a critical part of the NPP’s internal democratic processes, setting the stage for the selection of grassroots executives across the country.

Despite the party’s assurances, legal challenges have emerged in parts of the country.

The High Court in Nalerigu, in the North East Region, has issued an interim injunction preventing the NPP from holding elections in the Bunkpurugu Constituency.

The order, granted on May 8, 2026, followed a suit filed by Konlan Yenuyiab and 16 others, who alleged breaches of the party’s internal rules and violations of natural justice.

The court ruled that allowing the elections to proceed could cause irreparable harm and potentially render any future judgment ineffective. As a result, the party and its agents have been restrained from conducting the elections in the constituency for 10 days.

In a similar development, another High Court in Akim Oda has also placed an injunction on the exercise in the Akim Swedru Constituency.

Notwithstanding the legal setbacks, the NPP leadership maintains that the broader electoral process will proceed in all areas unaffected by court orders.

Party officials say the elections remain on track nationwide, with contingency measures in place to ensure compliance with legal directives while sustaining momentum in other constituencies.
