No Need To Reveal Black Stars Budget; Stop Attacking GFA – Kofi Adams

Published:

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has pushed back against mounting criticism that he is concealing the budget for the Black Stars’ recent World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar. The games, which took place 22 days ago, were expected to mark a new era of financial openness following President John Dramani Mahama’s February State of the Nation Address, in which he pledged an end to “secrecy” in government spending on national teams.

Despite the President’s directive for accountability, the Sports Ministry has yet to disclose the expenditure. Responding to inquiries from Channel One News, Minister Adams maintained that the budget would be made public in due course.

“You will know it when the time comes,” Adams assured. “I’m saying that I will make it public. Has the National Team ceased playing? We have matches coming up in September, and we will surely make it public. It will be unfair to make a draft budget public. I’m not hiding it.”

The Black Stars, under head coach Otto Addo, currently top Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 15 points, holding a three-point lead over Comoros. Ghana is set to face Chad and Mali in the next qualification round in September.
