A section of Ghanaians has taken to social media to criticise the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, over what they describe as inconsistent positions regarding the use of the presidential jet.
The backlash follows renewed public debate over government expenditure and the use of state resources, particularly the presidential aircraft, which has long been a subject of political scrutiny in Ghana.
Critics argue that Mr. Ablakwa, who consistently said the presidential jet is in pristine condition while in opposition, is silent on President Mahama’s refusal to use it. Social media platforms have since been flooded with reactions following the President’s consistence usage of his brother’s private jet.
“You cannot champion the usage of the presidential jet in opposition and remain silent in government when it is not being used” one user wrote, reflecting a widely shared sentiment online.
