Speaking in an interview on Joy News on Saturday, May 3, Gyamfi passionately defended the nomination of Justice Senyo Dzamefe, describing him as a seasoned legal professional with a long and distinguished track record in Ghana’s judiciary. He argued that the NPP’s condemnation of the appointment was politically motivated and devoid of substance.
“The problem with the NPP is the duplicity and the hypocrisy they continue to display. That is what I find nauseating in all these discussions,” Gyamfi said, referencing what he called the opposition’s inconsistent stance on judicial appointments.
Justice Dzamefe’s extensive legal career, Gyamfi emphasized, makes him more than qualified for the Supreme Court role. He highlighted Dzamefe’s service history: from State Attorney (1984–1987), to a Regional Tribunal member (1989–1996), Circuit Court Judge (1996–2000), High Court Judge (2000–2010), and Court of Appeal Judge (2010–2025).
“Despite this unmatched legal journey, the same NPP leaders who once endorsed politically motivated promotions of less experienced judges are today attacking a justifiable and merit-based appointment,” Gyamfi said.
He accused the NPP of sidelining qualified judges during its tenure, only to now claim high moral ground. “We all know you refused to promote these fine legal minds to the Supreme Court and instead elevated their juniors by as many as 20 years purely for cheap political gains,” he asserted.
Describing President Mahama’s current appointments as a corrective measure, Gyamfi said the goal was to restore fairness and credibility in the judiciary.
“What we are doing now is correcting the wrongs of the past. We are delivering justice to victims of injustice,” he said. “You can burn the sea if you don’t like it. President Mahama will not be remote-controlled by you.”
