Sam George Fires: Ask the Minority About Anti-LGBTQ Bill

Published:

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has sparked controversy after a viral video surfaced in which he reportedly told Ghanaians to “go and ask the Minority” about the country’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues.

The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows the outspoken legislator responding to a journalist’s question on the state of Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ bill. In the clip, Mr. George appears to deflect responsibility, saying, “Go and ask the Minority about that, not me.”

The statement has surprised many observers, given Sam George’s reputation as one of Ghana’s most vocal advocates for anti-LGBTQ legislation. He has been a leading sponsor and defender of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, popularly known as the “anti-LGBTQ bill,” which seeks to criminalize same-sex relationships and advocacy.

Ghanaians say his recent comment contradicts his previous public posture and raises questions about his current position on the matter. Some social media users have accused him of backtracking, while others speculate that political pressure or internal parliamentary dynamics may have influenced his remarks.
