Police Arrest Abronye DC After Government Criticism, Transfer Him to NIB Without Lawyer Access

Published:

The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Chairman Abronye.

Sources indicate that his arrest follows sharp criticisms he leveled against the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and the government.

Initially detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra, Abronye was later transferred to the offices of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

Lawyers for the outspoken politician told reporters they were informed of the transfer but were denied access to their client upon arrival at the NIB headquarters.

The development has already sparked concerns among his legal team and political supporters, who argue that the move undermines his constitutional right to counsel.

Neither the Police Service nor the NIB has publicly commented on the matter.
