The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially endorsed Solomon Kwame Asumadu as its parliamentary candidate for the impending by-election in the Akwatia Constituency, following the recent passing of sitting Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Mr. Asumadu, currently the Constituency Treasurer for the NPP in Akwatia, received unanimous backing from local party executives. A native of Boadua and a long-serving member of the party, Asumadu is widely respected for his dedication, organisational strength, and financial contributions to party activities in the constituency.
Known as a grassroots mobiliser with deep connections in the community, Asumadu’s candidacy is seen by many as a strategic move to retain the seat for the NPP in what is expected to be a closely watched by-election.
Speaking on the endorsement, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Tony Osei Adjei, expressed strong confidence in Asumadu’s ability to secure a decisive win.
“The party in Akwatia believes Solomon Kwame Asumadu will deliver a resounding victory in the upcoming by-election and continue to advance the NPP’s agenda of development and responsive leadership in the constituency,” Mr. Adjei stated.
Party insiders cite Asumadu’s local roots and proven commitment to the party’s grassroots structures as critical to energising the NPP base ahead of the polls.
The Electoral Commission is expected to announce the date for the by-election in the coming days. The contest is set to determine who will complete the late Ernest Yaw Kumi’s term in Parliament, with both major parties likely to field strong candidates in what has historically been a swing constituency.
