The Member of Parliament for Tano North and spokesperson for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Gideon Boako, has strongly denied claims that his support for Dr. Bawumia is based solely on loyalty despite allegedly believing he cannot win the 2028 elections.
In a statement issued on Monday, Dr. Boako dismissed the allegations made by the Tano North Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntiamoah, describing them as a “wicked lie” and a “figment of wild imagination.”
He clarified that he was not present at the said delegates’ meeting where the remarks were reportedly made, stressing that his support for Dr. Bawumia is rooted in conviction and confidence in the former Vice President’s leadership.
“My support for Dr. Bawumia is based on my firm belief that he is the most credible, experienced and winnable candidate to lead the NPP into victory in 2028. Any claims to the contrary are nothing but figments of imagination,” Dr. Boako stated.
Highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s strong backing in his constituency, Dr. Boako pointed to the 2023 NPP flagbearer elections, where the former Vice President secured 83 percent of the votes in Tano North. He maintained that both he and his constituents remain committed to rallying behind Bawumia as the party prepares for the next general elections.
The lawmaker also cautioned aspirants against associating his name with their campaigns, noting that his political goodwill was the result of “years of consistent, humble, and dedicated service,” supported by Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.
“We will continue to work with all our energy for Dr. Bawumia, and come 31st January 2026, the results will once again speak for themselves. Let us stay focused. Victory is assured,” he declared.
Dr. Boako’s rebuttal adds to the growing intra-party debate as the NPP positions itself ahead of the 2028 presidential elections, with Dr. Bawumia emerging as a key contender.
