Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Hamid, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) performance in government over the past eight years remains unmatched, despite the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during the Thank You Tour of the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the Savannah Region, Dr. Hamid praised the NPP’s legacy in office, stating that the party governed with distinction and left behind a strong policy record.
“There is no policy that the NPP implemented that I am sorry about. We did our best for this country,” Dr. Hamid said, highlighting the administration’s achievements across various sectors.
He described the party’s electoral loss not as a failure, but as a divine moment of reflection. “It was the desire of God for the NPP to lose the 2024 elections. If you are winning all the time, you will begin to believe in your invincibility. Sometimes, it is important to lose to learn that God exists,” he remarked.
Dr. Hamid dismissed suggestions that former President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power signaled a superior alternative, saying: “There is nothing that John Mahama will ever do that will match anything that we have done.”
His comments come amid renewed debate about the NPP’s political future and its governance record, as the party seeks to regroup and re-energize its base following a closely contested election.
The Thank You Tour, led by Dr. Bawumia, is part of efforts to show appreciation to the party’s supporters across the country and to reflect on the 2024 electoral outcome.
