A Presidential Staffer and Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has sparked public outrage after suggesting that residents of Adenta have no moral right to demand road construction because they “don’t pay enough taxes.”
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr Nukpenu bluntly stated that citizens should not expect the government to fix every road, especially when they fail to contribute adequately to the national tax base.
“Adenta people don’t pay enough taxes, so they should stop asking for their roads to be constructed,” he said.
Mr Nukpenu further argued that the Adenta-Lakeside road, which has become almost unmotorable in recent months, should be fixed by the residents themselves rather than waiting on government intervention.
“If the road is unmotorable, the people should organise themselves and fix it; we like complaining in Ghana too much. Government is now focusing on economically viable roads,” he fumed.
His remarks have since ignited widespread reactions on social media, with many Ghanaians describing the comments as insensitive and dismissive of taxpayers’ concerns.
