‘I don’t remember’. Deputy Finance Minister-Designate when asked about NDC’s Women Development Bank

Published:

Deputy Minister of Finance-designate, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, surprised many when he admitted before the Appointments Committee of Parliament that he could not recall details about the Women’s Development Bank promised in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.

During his vetting, Leader, Hon. Afenyo Markin, questioned him on the specifics of the proposed bank, which was highlighted as a major initiative to support women entrepreneurs and businesses. However, Mr. Nyarko Ampem responded, “I don’t remember what the Women’s Development Bank in the NDC’s manifesto is about.”

His response has raised concerns about the government’s readiness to fulfill key campaign promises, particularly those aimed at empowering women financially. The Women’s Development Bank was introduced as a policy initiative by the NDC to provide accessible funding for women-led businesses and help close the gender gap in financial inclusion.

Critics argue that a high-ranking finance official forgetting such a critical policy could signal a lack of commitment to its implementation.
