Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid a condolence visit to the family of legendary Ghanaian gospel musician, Yaw Sarpong, following news of his death.
Dr. Bawumia visited the bereaved family to express his sympathies and to honour the immense contribution the late gospel icon made to Ghana’s music industry and Christian worship over several decades. He described Yaw Sarpong as a “pillar of Ghanaian gospel music” whose songs shaped generations and provided spiritual comfort to many Ghanaians.
During the visit, Dr. Bawumia consoled the family, encouraging them to take solace in the legacy the late musician leaves behind. He noted that Yaw Sarpong’s dedication to ministry through music transcended entertainment and played a significant role in promoting moral values and national unity.
Yaw Sarpong, renowned for leading the Asomafo band and producing timeless gospel classics, remains one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s gospel music history. His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from musicians, clergy, fans, and public figures across the country.
