The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on members of the party to openly acknowledge their past mistakes and use them as stepping stones toward regaining public trust and political power.
Addressing thousands of party faithful at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Dr. Bawumia struck a tone of reflection and renewal, urging party members not to shy away from their electoral defeat but to learn from it.
“We have also learned useful lessons on how to improve some things in the future. We must remain resolute and consistent in doing the right things and applying the lessons the next time,” Bawumia said.
He stressed that genuine transformation will only be possible if the party demonstrates to Ghanaians that it has internalized the lessons of the past and is committed to doing better.
“We shouldn’t be shy about them; it is then that our fellow countrymen and women will give us another opportunity to serve. An army that wants to win a battle must exercise discipline within its ranks,” he noted.
The National Delegates Conference brought together national and regional party executives, former government appointees, MPs, constituency representatives, and grassroots members. The event served as a platform to review the party’s performance in the 2024 elections and strategize for a stronger political comeback.
Dr. Bawumia’s message emphasized unity, discipline, and the importance of consistency in action and communication — traits he described as essential for the party to reposition itself credibly in the eyes of the Ghanaian electorate.
