Bawumia to win convincingly in first round – APL final survey

Published:

The Africa Policy Lens (APL) has projected a decisive first-round victory for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in Saturday’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary.

In its final pre-election survey released on Tuesday, January 27, APL predicts that Dr Bawumia will secure 61 per cent of the total votes cast, placing him well ahead of his closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, who is projected to obtain 25.10 per cent.

According to the survey results, Dr Bryan Acheampong is expected to finish third with 5.20 per cent, while Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyapong trail with 0.10 per cent and 0.30 per cent respectively.

The survey further indicates that 0.29 per cent of delegates said they would not be voting, while 8 per cent remained undecided at the time of the poll.

APL stated that the survey sampled 9,122 NPP delegates across all constituencies nationwide, with interviews conducted between December 8, 2025, and January 23, 2026.

The report is the latest in a series of polls forecasting a strong showing for the former Vice President. Only days earlier, research firm Global InfoAnalytics, in its own final report, similarly tipped Dr Bawumia to clinch the NPP flagbearership in the first round.

The NPP is set to go to the polls on Saturday to elect its presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections, amid keen interest from party faithful and the wider political landscape.
