Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has intensified campaign efforts in the Akwatia Constituency ahead of Tuesday’s [September 2] by-election.
Dr. Bawumia, who was in the constituency on Friday to join mourners at the one-week observation of the late Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, returned on Sunday to rally support for the party’s parliamentary candidate, Ernest Kumi Asumadu.
The former Vice President began the day with church visitations, introducing the candidate to congregants and urging them to back him in the upcoming polls. He emphasized the importance of unity and continuity, noting that a victory for the NPP would ensure the continuation of the late Ernest Kumi’s legacy.
As part of his tour, Dr. Bawumia, together with the parliamentary hopeful, also paid a courtesy call on the Kusiman Hene, Nana Ntiamoah Kusi Boadu. He later engaged residents across several communities, interacting directly with grassroots supporters and appealing for their votes.
Dr. Bawumia urged constituents to vote massively for Asumadu, stressing that this was the surest way to consolidate the development projects initiated by the late MP.
The Akwatia by-election was necessitated by the sudden passing of Ernest Kumi, who had represented the constituency on the ticket of the NPP. The polls are scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
