Published:

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has brought together all five New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants at his Nima residence for a unity breakfast meeting aimed at fostering peace ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primary.

The breakfast meeting comes as the NPP gears up for its crucial internal election slated for January 31, 2026. The gathering sought to consolidate unity within the party and reaffirm the commitment of all aspirants to a fair and credible contest.

According to a statement from the Office of the Former President, the meeting was attended by top-ranking party figures including Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman; Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Former Chief of Staff.

The five presidential hopefuls; Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong were all present at the breakfast, signaling a united front despite the highly anticipated contest ahead.

Expressing his appreciation, the former President said he was “profoundly grateful to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to break bread” with him, describing their attendance as “a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.”

He lauded each of the aspirants for their contributions to the party and urged them to focus their campaigns on ideas and policy visions rather than personal attacks. “My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to working towards a properly energised and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections,” Akufo-Addo emphasised.

In a symbolic demonstration of party cohesion, all five aspirants reportedly pledged to maintain a peaceful and issue-based campaign, assuring the former President and party leadership of their commitment to rally behind the eventual winner after the primaries. They also reaffirmed their dedication to preserving the unity and integrity of the NPP throughout the election process.
