“The IGP Is Alive!” – Police Break Silence

Published:

The Ghana Police Service has strongly refuted viral rumours claiming that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has died, labelling the reports as “false, malicious and deliberately misleading.”

In a statement, the Police Service reassured the public that the IGP is “alive and well and going about his duties as expected.” It urged police personnel, families, and the general public to completely disregard the falsehoods circulating across social media platforms and certain online portals.

The Police Service condemned the individuals behind the disinformation, warning that the deliberate spread of false news, especially about the country’s national security leadership, is a criminal offense under Ghanaian law. It further disclosed that those responsible for originating and amplifying the fake claims will be tracked down and prosecuted.

According to the statement, such reckless rumours have the potential to create public anxiety, sow mistrust in state institutions, and disrupt national stability. The Service appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified information, particularly on sensitive matters relating to national security.

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring transparency and maintaining public confidence, stressing that official updates on the IGP or any security-related matter will always be communicated through authorised channels.
