Seychelles President-elect Invites Otumfuo To Inauguration

Published:

The President-elect of Seychelles, Patrick Herminie, has officially invited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to attend his inauguration ceremony scheduled for October 26, 2025.

The invitation was announced in a post by Opemsuo Radio on Thursday, October 16, 2025, which read:

“Seychelles President-elect, Patrick Herminie, invites Asantehene to his inauguration on October 26.”

Mr. Herminie, a former Speaker of the Seychelles National Assembly, secured victory over incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan in a closely contested run-off election, earning 52.7% of the vote. His win marks a significant political shift, restoring full control of the island nation’s government to his United Seychelles Party, which also reclaimed its parliamentary majority in the September general elections after losing it in 2015.

The Asantehene’s invitation to the high-profile ceremony underscores his growing international influence and the global recognition of traditional leadership as a force for diplomacy, peacebuilding, and cultural exchange.

Known for his role in promoting peace, unity, and development both within Ghana and abroad, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s attendance is expected to symbolize cultural diplomacy and intercontinental cooperation between Africa’s traditional authorities and political leaders.

In addition to the Seychelles invitation, the President of Suriname, Jennifer Simons, has also extended a formal invitation to the Asantehene to attend the country’s Independence Day celebration in November.

The dual invitations reflect the respect and esteem held for the Asantehene on the global stage, particularly in nations seeking to deepen ties with Ghana and Africa through cultural and diplomatic collaboration.
