Ken Ashigbey Calls for God’s Forgiveness for Stan Doge Alleged Lies About Him

Published:

The Convener of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining (Galamsey), Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, has called on the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to make public the names of National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials he reportedly referred to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for investigations into their alleged involvement in illegal small-scale mining.

Ing. Ashigbey’s call follows the Attorney-General’s recent directive that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, report to Accra on Monday, October 6, 2025, for his charges to be formally read to him in relation to the operations of his company, Akonta Mining.

Dr. Ayine stated that the charges against Wontumi and Akonta Mining had been signed and warned that failure to appear would result in his arrest.

“The charges against Wontumi, Akonta Mining have been signed. He should be here on Monday. If he doesn’t come by Monday, I will order his arrest, and his charges will be read to him,” the Attorney-General said.

However, at the same forum, Ing. Ashigbey questioned why there had been no update on investigations into other politically exposed individuals referred to EOCO.

“The Attorney-General talked only about Akonta Mining, but we are aware that you referred some politically exposed persons to EOCO we have not heard anything about that. There are some that we have petitioned against, but we haven’t heard anything. There are some chiefs who are complicit,” he stated.

He stressed that the fight against illegal mining must be non-partisan and transparent, urging the government to declare a state of emergency to confront what he described as a national environmental crisis.

“We believe that the state of emergency is critical in the fight against galamsey,” Ashigbey added.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has confirmed that investigations into Akonta Mining are still ongoing.

Speaking at a press conference on June 30, 2025, DCOP Donkor disclosed that one other person has been arrested in connection with the case. She said Chairman Wontumi had visited the CID “a couple of times” but had delayed a recent appearance due to ill health.

“That case is also actively ongoing. Chairman Wontumi has visited us a couple of times; he was supposed to come back to us sometime this week. Unfortunately, he was ill, and his lawyer submitted a letter to us. I believe he is now okay because we have communicated to them that he should be seeing us this week, and they have responded,” she said.
