The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has disclosed that the previous Nana Akufo-Addo administration paid $230 million to the contractor working on the new BoG headquarters, with an outstanding balance of $31.8 million still due.

Speaking in Parliament on March 5, Dr. Asiama revealed that the total cost of the project has risen to $261.8 million, with payments to the contractor continuing as recently as February 2025.

“As of February this year, a total of approximately $230 million has been paid towards the project, with an outstanding balance of $31.8 million still due to the contractor,” he stated.

Additional Costs and Investments

Dr. Asiama also noted that an additional $48.3 million has been spent on taxes and levies related to the construction.

The state-of-the-art headquarters includes several advanced facilities designed to modernize the Bank of Ghana’s operations. These include:
• $8.6 million for an Integrated Communication and Computing (ICC) system and Network Infrastructure
• $15.8 million for integrated electronic security systems
• $11.1 million for furniture and furnishings

According to Dr. Asiama, these investments ensure that the central bank operates in a secure, efficient, and technologically advanced environment befitting a modern financial institution.

Official Inauguration

In November 2024, former President Nana Akufo-Addo officially inaugurated the new BoG headquarters, which now stands as a symbol of financial strength and modernity in the heart of Accra.

The project represents a historic milestone for the Bank of Ghana, which has been a key pillar in the country’s economic management since its establishment in 1957.
