GTEC Warns Public Against 62 Unrecognised Universities, Colleges

Published:

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned the public against engaging with 62 tertiary institutions operating without official recognition in the country, raising concerns over academic quality and the validity of qualifications they award.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 17, the Commission indicated that the listed institutions are not accredited under Ghana’s regulatory framework. It urged students, employers, and the general public to exercise due diligence when assessing certificates obtained from such entities.

According to GTEC, the directive forms part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s tertiary education system and protect prospective students from enrolling in programmes that fall short of nationally approved academic standards.

“The public is advised to be mindful when dealing with institutions that are not recognised, as qualifications obtained from them may not be accepted for employment, further education, or professional advancement within Ghana,” the statement emphasised.

The Commission noted that despite continuous public education and regulatory oversight, some institutions continue to operate outside the legal framework, often targeting unsuspecting individuals with attractive but unverified programmes.

Among the institutions cited are Universidad Azteca Mexico, Indian School of Management and Studies, Breyer State Theology University, Debest College of Science, Arts and Business, Osiri University, Atlantic International University, Faith University Seminary, and Christian University College Monrovia.

GTEC reiterated its commitment to enforcing compliance within the tertiary education sector and advised prospective students to verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling.
