Some Ghanaian nationals stranded in the United Arab Emirates have appealed to the government of Ghana for urgent evacuation following security incidents that disrupted airport operations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The disruptions come after escalating tensions across the Middle East, where Iran launched retaliatory strikes in response to coordinated military operations by the United States and Israel. The attacks reportedly caused fatalities and injuries at Dubai International Airport and Zayed International Airport, forcing the suspension of several flights and causing widespread travel disruptions.
Ghanaians caught up in the situation say they have received little information regarding evacuation plans and are becoming increasingly anxious as tensions in the region continue to escalate.
One of the stranded nationals, Ghanaian blogger Felix Adomako Mensah, popularly known as ZionFelix, said they are living in fear and urgently need support from the government.
ZionFelix indicated that they had not received any direct communication from Ghanaian authorities.“I have not got any brief from any local authority. No government official has reached out to us in the hotel,” he said.
According to him, airline staff from Emirates have taken their details and provided limited updates regarding the situation, but there remains uncertainty about when flights will resume.
“It’s the Emirates staff that we mostly deal with; they contacted us and recorded our details. They told us they don’t know when we will be flying,” he explained.
He added that the stranded Ghanaians are ready to return home and are calling on authorities in Ghana to facilitate their evacuation as soon as possible.
“We want to leave, so we are calling on the government to come to our aid and evacuate us to Ghana. We’re ever ready to leave. Inasmuch as we are safe, because they are trying to solve the issue, I’m still living in fear concerning how things are escalating within the region,” he said.
The situation has heightened concerns among travellers and foreign nationals in the UAE as uncertainty persists over flight schedules and the broader security situation in the Middle East. Ghanaian nationals affected by the disruptions say they hope authorities will intervene swiftly to ensure their safe return home.
