The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu, has called on government to implement deliberate and impactful policies aimed at supporting the growth and development of young people across the country.
He stressed the need for increased investment in education and entrepreneurship programmes that equip the youth with practical skills and empower them to build sustainable livelihoods.
The Presiding Bishop made the call during the launch of the 80th Anniversary of the Methodist Youth Fellowship at Wesley Towers in Accra on Saturday, February 21, 2025.
Speaking in an interview, Most Rev. Prof. Asamoah-Gyadu said his pastoral visits across Ghana have exposed him to the resilience and determination of many young people who continue to strive for survival and contribute meaningfully to national development despite prevailing economic challenges.
“As I go round this country on pastoral visits as Presiding Bishop, I see a large body of incredibly hardworking young people in our cities, towns, and villages. Some of them are farmers, some of them run small businesses trying to make a living for themselves,” he stated.
While encouraging young people to remain industrious and committed to shaping their future, he urged policymakers, politicians, and public office holders to pay closer and more considerate attention to the realities confronting the youth.
“I would like to encourage policymakers, especially our politicians and public office holders, to make sure that we are paying close and considerate attention to the work and lives of young people, whether through education or entrepreneurial programmes,” he added.
The Presiding Bishop further emphasised the importance of leadership by example, noting that the conduct of those in authority significantly influences the attitudes, aspirations, and values of the younger generation.
Congratulating the Methodist Youth Fellowship on attaining its 80-year milestone, he commended members for their dedication and longstanding commitment to the church and society. He encouraged them to continue working diligently in service to God and to uphold integrity and discipline in both their personal and public lives.
