Special Prosecutor Took $40,000 After Clearing Adu Boahen – Martin Kpebu

Published:

Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has levelled explosive allegations against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, claiming he took an alleged US$40,000 from former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, to discontinue charges against him.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, December 6, Mr Kpebu insisted he possesses evidence to back his claims, accusing the Special Prosecutor of corruption and abuse of office.

“When Kissi Agyebeng freed Adu Boahen, he wrote to him to bring him $40,000 cash after telling Ghanaians he had not committed any crime within his jurisdiction. What is your mandate to collect $40,000?” Martin Kpebu alleged.

In a related development, Mr Kpebu also accused Dr Kingsley Agyemang, former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and now MP for Abuakwa South, of orchestrating a smear campaign against his predecessor, Samuel Atta Akyea, to secure the parliamentary seat.

According to him, Dr Agyemang, who was reportedly facing a corruption complaint at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), escaped arrest because the Special Prosecutor allegedly intervened.

“Corruption case against Kingsley Agyemang was reported to OSP, and he was due for arrest to write his statement. But Kissi Agyebeng blocked the arrest and said Kingsley was his friend and arresting him would affect his primaries,” Martin Kpebu further alleged.

He further claimed that individuals recruited for the smear campaign were promised two scholarship slots, adding that one of the supposed participants has since confessed to the deal.

Mr Kpebu disclosed that he intends to file a formal petition to President John Dramani Mahama in the coming week, seeking the removal of Kissi Agyebeng from office.

His comments come just days after he was detained at the OSP headquarters on following a confrontation with officers while assisting in investigations related to earlier allegations he made against the Special Prosecutor.
