Bawumia Integrates TESCON Patrons into Campaign, Pledges them Key Roles in His Government

Published:

Former Vice President and the leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to make the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) a critical part of his political campaign and future government, promising to usher in a youth-led administration should he be elected President.

This follows a meeting with the leadership of over 200 TESCON patrons nationwide, who declared their support for Dr. Bawumia ahead of the NPP’s upcoming national primaries. The group cited his consistency, accessibility, and vision for the youth as reasons for their endorsement.

In response, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude for their confidence and assured them of a renewed partnership between the party’s youth wing and the national leadership. He emphasised that TESCON, the intellectual and ideological backbone of the NPP on university campuses, will be fully integrated into his campaign operations and play a key role in policy formulation and governance if he wins the presidency.

The Vice President acknowledged concerns within the party about the perceived neglect of TESCON in recent years, saying his campaign seeks to reverse that trend by restoring confidence and participation among the party’s youthful base.

He further pledged to revive and strengthen the NPP’s youth front, describing it as vital to the party’s electoral fortunes and long-term sustainability.

Dr. Bawumia’s engagement with TESCON patrons is being interpreted as a strategic move to consolidate the NPP’s youth base ahead of a potentially competitive flagbearer contest.

TESCON, established in 1959, remains a key mobilisation force for the NPP, providing manpower, policy ideas, and campaign support during elections.

Dr. Bawumia’s latest commitment signals a deliberate effort to restore the organisation’s influence and harness its nationwide network in pursuit of victory in the 2028 general elections.
