Bawumia: I Have the Vision, Integrity, Compassion and Competence to Serve Ghana

Published:

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has declared that he possesses the right blend of vision, integrity, compassion and competence to lead Ghana into the future, as he formally filed his nomination forms to contest in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

Dr. Bawumia, who is widely considered the frontrunner in the race, submitted his nomination at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, drawing massive support from party faithful, grassroots members and leading figures within the NPP.

Addressing a jubilant crowd after filing, the Vice President expressed gratitude to the party’s delegates and reiterated his commitment to national service.

“I have the vision, integrity, compassion and competence to serve this country. I am running for president not just to lead the NPP, but to build a Ghana where opportunities are expanded, development is inclusive, and no Ghanaian is left behind,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted his role in spearheading several of the government’s digital transformation policies, including the Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability, and reforms in the financial sector, positioning them as a foundation for the country’s economic transformation.

He also appealed to delegates to rally behind his candidature, promising to lead a campaign of unity that will strengthen the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Party insiders note that his entry into the race sets the stage for a highly competitive contest, as other prominent figures including former MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, and former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen (if he rejoins), are expected to challenge for the flagbearership.

The NPP is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries later this year, with delegates set to determine who will lead the party into the next general elections.
