NPP’s Tradition Does Not Entertain Divisiveness – Ntim Warns Against Religious Politics

Published:

Mr. Stephen Ntim, the Middle Belt Campaign Committee Chairman for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned party members against introducing religious and tribal sentiments into the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal politics.

Speaking during a door-to-door campaign in the Ashanti Region to galvanize support for Dr. Bawumia’s bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections, Mr. Ntim described attempts to link the Vice President’s electoral performance in 2024 to his faith as “alien to the NPP tradition.”

“There are people within the party moving around with the message that Christians did not vote for Dr. Bawumia during the 2024 elections because he is a Muslim. This is very alien in the NPP. We do not entertain such divisive pronouncements because every NPP member knows that the party does not segregate,” he stressed.

Mr. Ntim further challenged the basis of such claims, noting that no post-election report suggested that religion or ethnicity played a role in the outcome of the 2024 polls.
“In any case, post-2024 election reports never indicated that Dr. Bawumia lost the election because of his religious belief or tribe, so where is this coming from?” he quizzed.

Campaign activities for the NPP’s next presidential candidate have intensified in the Ashanti Region, widely regarded as the party’s stronghold. The party is expected to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, with Dr. Bawumia seeking re-election as flagbearer
