Felix Kwakye Ofosu Clarifies Hajj Village Funding: No Taxpayer Money Involved

Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has clarified that the ongoing construction of the Hajj Village is being funded entirely by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) without any contributions from taxpayers.

In a statement shared on X, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu dispelled rumors that public funds were being used for the project, reaffirming the government’s transparency in its financing. His remarks come amid growing public interest and debate over the funding and purpose of the new facility.

The Hajj Village, officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, February 28, is being constructed to improve travel arrangements for Ghanaian Muslims embarking on the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca. The facility aims to enhance efficiency, organization, and comfort for pilgrims before their departure.

As part of this year’s Hajj arrangements, President Mahama has also announced plans to airlift 5,000 Ghanaian pilgrims, reinforcing the government’s commitment to facilitating the spiritual journey.

The construction of the Hajj Village is expected to streamline the pilgrimage process, ensuring a well-coordinated and seamless experience for travelers while demonstrating the government’s support for religious inclusivity.
