Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been removed from the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) list of wanted persons after agreeing to return to Ghana for ongoing investigations. This development comes after Ofori-Atta, who had been declared a fugitive on February 12, 2025, committed to a definitive date for his voluntary return.
In a press release dated February 18, 2025, the OSP revealed that the former minister’s fugitive status stemmed from his failure to provide a reasonable timeline for his return to Ghana, despite being formally notified of his status as a suspect in corruption-related cases.
However, in a significant turn of events, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers communicated his intention to cooperate with the OSP, including a set date for his return. The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, acknowledged the shift as a positive development and confirmed the withdrawal of his fugitive designation, pending his return and subsequent appearance before the OSP for questioning.
