Bawumia Congratulates Black Stars on 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification

Published:

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has congratulated the Black Stars for securing qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the achievement as a moment of immense national pride.

The four-time African champions booked their place at next year’s global football showpiece after a decisive 1–0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday night, which saw them finish top of Group I with 25 points.

Dr. Bawumia commended the team for their determination and teamwork throughout the qualifying campaign.

“It’s @FIFAWorldCup number 5! Congratulations to the @GhanaBlackstars for qualifying Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. We are Ghana! We are coming!” he said enthusiastically in a social media post.

Ghana’s qualification marks their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament, following successful campaigns in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.

The team’s qualification capped off a remarkable run in which they topped their group, scoring more goals than any other side. Their triumph has reignited national excitement ahead of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in June 2026.

Under the leadership of head coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars are determined to make a stronger impression after exiting the group stage in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Fans and analysts alike have praised the team’s recent resurgence, citing improved tactical discipline, attacking flair, and unity of purpose.

Dr. Bawumia’s message adds to the chorus of congratulations pouring in from across the country, as Ghanaians celebrate the team’s return to the world stage.
