NPP made the right choice electing Bawumia as flagbearer – Okyere Baafi

Published:

The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Trade and Industry Committee, Michael Okyere Baafi, has called on delegates and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put aside apathy, divisions, and internal camps following the party’s flagbearership contest and unite behind the newly elected flagbearer.

According to the Okyere Barfi, delegates, regardless of their previous affiliations to various aspirants, must accept the outcome of the contest in good faith and offer their full support to the flagbearer-elect. He stressed that the collective interest of the party must always take precedence over individual preferences.

Mr. Okyere Baafi stated that the NPP made the right decision by electing former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. He noted that the party’s branding, ideology, and public image over the years have been closely associated with Dr. Bawumia.

He explained that, given Dr. Bawumia’s longstanding role in shaping the party’s economic narrative and national appeal, there was no justification for replacing a candidate of such calibre at this critical stage in the party’s political journey.

The MP further emphasised that the NPP’s political tradition is anchored on consistency, strong principles, and continuity, adding that the election of Dr. Bawumia reflects the party’s commitment to these values.

Mr. Okyere Baafi expressed confidence that maintaining consistency in leadership and messaging would strengthen the party’s prospects in the 2028 general elections.

He concluded by appealing to supporters of all former aspirants to see Dr. Bawumia’s victory as a collective win for the entire party and to embrace unity, peace, and reconciliation as essential pillars for building a formidable opposition and positioning the NPP for a return to power.
