NPP Ballot Draw: Bawumia Takes Third Spot for 2026 Flagbearer Race

Published:

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially conducted the ballot to determine the order in which its five presidential aspirants will appear on the ballot paper ahead of the much-anticipated flagbearer elections slated for January 31, 2026.

The balloting exercise, which took place on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the party’s national headquarters in Accra, was supervised by the NPP’s National Elections Committee, in line with the electoral guidelines issued on July 29.

Following the draw, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the outspoken former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, secured the coveted number one position on the ballot. He was followed by Dr Bryan Acheampong, the former Minister for Food and Agriculture, who picked number two.

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a leading contender in the race, drew number three, while Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former Education Minister, picked number four. Rounding up the list is Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, the former General Secretary of the party, who took the fifth and final slot.

The balloting marks a key milestone in the NPP’s internal democratic process as the party gears up to elect a new flagbearer to lead it into the 2028 general elections.

According to party officials, the exercise was conducted in a transparent and orderly manner, with representatives of all aspirants present. The National Elections Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible process throughout the campaign and voting period.

The upcoming election is expected to be one of the most competitive in the NPP’s recent history, as each of the five aspirants brings distinct political experience, regional influence, and visions for the future of the party.
