The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of secretly introducing LGBTQ-related content into Ghana’s basic school curriculum.
In a social media post on Tuesday, the Assin South Member of Parliament criticised the printing and distribution of teacher manuals and other teaching and learning materials (TLMs), alleging they were designed to promote what he described as an “LGBTQ agenda” in schools.
Rev. Fordjour, a former Deputy Minister for Education, claimed the materials were produced and circulated despite what he said was the NDC’s public posture of opposing LGBTQ issues.
“The NDC has mischievously and deliberately smuggled LGBTQ agenda into the curriculum, printed and distributed Teacher Manuals and other Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) to promote LGBTQ, contrary to their deceptive rhetoric of being the party which abhors LGBTQ,” he wrote.
He further called for the immediate withdrawal of all manuals and textbooks he believes contain such content, both in print and online, and demanded a comprehensive review of sections he described as “poisoned” with LGBTQ material.
“We strongly caution the government to refrain from using NaCCA and the Ministry of Education to propagate this vile and evil agenda of LGBTQ sexuality education,” the MP added.
Rev. Fordjour also linked his claims to the delayed consideration of the Private Member’s Bill titled Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, alleging that the purported curriculum changes explain why the bill has not been listed on Parliament’s Order Paper.
“This diabolical and dangerous agenda, among others, reveals why this government has suppressed the private members bill,” he stated, urging Ghanaians to “rise up to resist” what he termed the NDC’s LGBTQ agenda.
