Youth Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kintampo South, Samuel Owusu, has commended former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for what he describes as a groundbreaking transformation of the Vice Presidency and an unmatched record of service in Ghana’s political history.
His remarks follow the move by 490 NPP youth organisers including substantive and deputy youth leaders from constituencies across the country to collectively purchase nomination forms for Dr. Bawumia ahead of the party’s January 2026 presidential primary.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Owusu noted that the 1992 Constitution assigns limited roles to the Vice President, yet Dr. Bawumia’s tenure expanded the office’s influence through practical and innovative leadership.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lifted the Office of the Vice President so high. He has raised the bar. He has been the most effective Vice President this country has recorded,” Mr. Owusu said. “The Ghana Card, the digital address system, Zipline medical delivery drones, and mobile money interoperability these are things that have made life easy for us.”
Mr. Owusu highlighted that Dr. Bawumia’s achievements in technology integration, national identification, and financial inclusion have had a lasting impact on public service delivery. He credited the former Vice President’s problem-solving approach for winning the admiration of party grassroots and positioning him as a strong contender to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
“Dr. Bawumia came in and defined roles to the credit of the Vice President,” he added. “His vision and efficiency have set a new benchmark in governance.”
The NPP’s presidential primary is expected to be a pivotal moment in shaping the party’s strategy for the next general elections, with Dr. Bawumia already emerging as a frontrunner in the race.
