Bawumia Warns NPP Against Internal Attacks, Urges Unity for 2028

Published:

Former vice-president and 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned party supporters and fellow flagbearer aspirants against engaging in internal attacks, warning that such actions only weaken the NPP and play to the advantage of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at the NPP headquarters in Accra after submitting his nomination forms to contest again for the party’s flagbearership ahead of the 2028 elections, Dr Bawumia stressed the need for unity.

“Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there! We need unity to win,” he declared. “The repeated attacks by our own party folk on one another are absolutely unhelpful. What we say against each other is what the NDC will use against us in 2028. If you claim you are a true patriot and want this party to win in 2028, then stop it. Stop the internal attacks now. Stop the religious and tribal attacks now.”

Dr Bawumia said the NPP had drawn key lessons from its defeat in the 2024 elections and is now in a stronger position to rebuild and return to power. He underscored that party cohesion is vital for holding the NDC accountable for what he described as unfulfilled campaign promises.

Highlighting his 16 years of service in government and within the party, the former vice-president argued that he remains the best-prepared candidate to lead the NPP into the next general election. He cited major initiatives he championed, including the Gold-for-Oil programme, mobile money interoperability, the Ghana Card rollout, Agenda 111, and the digital property addressing system, as evidence of his track record in delivering transformative policies.
