Bawumia Visits Kufuor & Akufo-Addo After Victory

Published:

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) newly elected flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid a courtesy call on former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo following his victory in the party’s recent presidential primary.

The visit, which took place shortly after Dr. Bawumia secured the party’s top ticket, was aimed at expressing appreciation to the former Presidents for their longstanding support, guidance, and counsel throughout his political journey within the NPP.

Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, acknowledged the pivotal role former President Kufuor has played in shaping the party’s leadership tradition and mentoring emerging leaders over the years. He thanked the elder statesman for his wisdom and encouragement, particularly during the period leading up to the flagbearer race.

The two statesmen held extensive discussions on party unity, leadership, and the strategic direction of the NPP as it prepares for the next general election. Central to their conversation was the need to consolidate support across the party and strengthen internal cohesion after the competitive primary.

Former President Kufuor, widely regarded as a unifying figure within the NPP, is said to have congratulated Dr. Bawumia on his victory and assured him of his continued support. He reportedly emphasized the importance of inclusiveness, humility, and collective effort in leading the party into the next phase of its political journey.

Dr. Bawumia also visited former President Akuffo Addo. During the visit, Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for the support and guidance during NPP’s presidential primaries. He also reaffirmed his commitment to building on the achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration and to uniting the party ahead of the elections.

President Akufo-Addo congratulated Dr. Bawumia on his victory and wished him well in the task ahead. He urged him to remain focused, promote unity within the party, and continue to advance policies that will drive national development.

The courtesy call forms part of Dr. Bawumia’s post-primary engagements with key party figures and stakeholders, as he works to rally support and foster unity within the NPP ahead of the upcoming national campaign.
