Former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has stirred controversy with pointed remarks directed at New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates, accusing them of contributing to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during a campaign tour in Oforikrom in the Ashanti Region to canvass support for NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, Naa Torshie argued that the party’s loss should not be blamed on former Vice President and 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to her, delegates’ dissatisfaction with government appointees, whom she said had been accused of neglecting grassroots members, influenced internal attitudes that ultimately weakened the party’s electoral fortunes.
“Losing the 2024 election wasn’t Dr. Bawumia’s fault. It’s you, the delegates, who made us lose it. You were angry with some of us, the appointees, who neglected you,” she stated, drawing loud reactions from the gathering.
Her remarks add to ongoing internal debates within the NPP as the party prepares for its upcoming presidential primaries. Tensions have been rising over the direction of the party, with various camps assigning blame for the 2024 defeat.
