Bawumia Is the Most Marketable Candidate for 2028 – Aide Declares

Published:

Kwesi Botchwey Jnr, aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed strong confidence that his boss will emerge victorious in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming flagbearer race.

His optimism comes on the back of a Global Info Analytics poll released on August 21, 2025, which places Dr. Bawumia ahead of his rivals with 52 percent support among NPP delegates. His closest contender, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, secured 17 percent.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, August 22, Botchwey Jnr described Dr. Bawumia as the “most prepared” and “most marketable” aspirant to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

“All the candidates are fit to contest the flagbearer race, but if we want somebody who can win us power, it is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he argued. “Amongst all the aspirants, Dr. Bawumia is the most prepared candidate to lead the NPP in 2028; he’s the most marketable candidate.”

Botchwey Jnr highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s consistency and long-standing service to the party as qualities that make him the strongest option.
“He has been there throughout. If we want a formidable candidate to lead the NPP in the 2028 elections, it is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia is well prepared, formidable, and a winnable candidate,” he said.

He also rejected claims that Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
“The candidature of Dr. Bawumia is not one of the reasons why the NPP lost the 2024 elections,” he insisted, stressing that such claims are based on sentiment rather than evidence.

The Global Info Analytics poll further shows other aspirants trailing far behind, with Dr. Bryan Acheampong at 3 percent, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum at 1 percent, while Kwabena Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, and Addai Nimo each recorded less than 1 percent support.
