Bawumia Enters Bono With Grassroot Welfare Policies

Published:

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a comprehensive welfare system to address the needs of grassroots members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should he become the party’s flagbearer and, ultimately, President of Ghana.

Speaking at the start of his nationwide campaign in the Sene East constituency of the Bono East Region on Saturday, Dr. Bawumia said the initiative aims to strengthen the welfare of party loyalists and ensure that their sacrifices and contributions to the NPP’s success are duly recognized and rewarded.

According to him, the proposed welfare framework will directly cater to the needs of polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and other grassroots members who form the backbone of the party’s electoral machinery.

“You need to understand people’s problems before you can help them, and I’ve taken my time to understand the issues with the grassroots members of our party,” Dr. Bawumia said. “The problems of our party members are not the same. Some need loans for their businesses, some need fertilizers for their farms, some need scholarships for their children, and others need medical attention.”

As part of his broader plan to empower the party’s base, Dr. Bawumia announced that, under his leadership, each constituency would be guaranteed a minimum of ten government appointments. This, he explained, would ensure fair representation and reward for dedicated party members across the country.

To ensure the effective delivery of his proposed welfare programme, the former Vice President outlined plans to establish a Welfare Database System, a digital platform designed to capture, monitor, and track the welfare concerns of individual party members.

“I want to institute something called the Welfare Database System, with coordinators in all constituencies who will be in charge of managing the welfare information of our members,” he said. “Every three months, we will have a review of the database to see who we have been able to help and who is still in need. This will help remove bottlenecks and ensure timely support for our people.”

Dr. Bawumia added that a Presidential Coordinator would oversee the system at the national level, ensuring accountability and responsiveness across constituencies.

The former Vice President’s message formed a key component of his campaign strategy to revitalize the NPP’s grassroots ahead of the party’s flagbearer elections. His emphasis on welfare and inclusivity, he noted, reflects his broader vision of a “people-centered leadership” within the party structure.
