The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has confirmed that the official X (formerly Twitter) account of President John Dramani Mahama was hacked and used to promote a suspicious cryptocurrency known as “Solana Africa.”
In a statement released on March 18, 2025, the CSA disclosed that the breach occurred in the early hours of March 17, with hackers exploiting the President’s account to endorse Solana Africa, raising security concerns for high-profile individuals and the broader digital space.
The CSA assured the public that it is collaborating with X and other cybersecurity stakeholders to address the incident and prevent future breaches.
The incident appears to be part of a coordinated “rug pull” scam, where attackers artificially inflate a cryptocurrency’s value before withdrawing funds and crashing the market.
Data from trading platforms indicate that Solana Africa’s market cap surged to approximately $2.4 million after the endorsement from Mahama’s account. However, the value plummeted to around $7,000 shortly after liquidity was drained.
Analysis suggests that the hackers may have stolen up to $1.9 million before dumping the tokens and causing the crash.
The CSA’s confirmation of the hack highlights the growing cybersecurity threats facing political figures and the need for enhanced digital security protocols.
