More than 1,000 residents left homeless in Accra due to flooding

In Osu, particularly around the Coconut Plantation area, separate demolition activities and flooding incidents have combined to render hundreds of families homeless, worsening an already critical situation.

Other communities including Dansoman, Mallam, Alajo, and Adjiringanor have also experienced severe flooding following hours of heavy rainfall, with roads submerged and homes affected.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has activated emergency response operations in affected districts, deploying teams to assist with evacuations and water drainage efforts. Temporary shelter arrangements are being made in selected schools to accommodate displaced residents, while relief items are being distributed to affected households.

However, authorities have indicated that long-term solutions will require strict enforcement against unauthorized structures built on waterways and drainage paths, which continue to worsen flooding in the metropolis.

Residents and local leaders are calling for urgent intervention to prevent further damage as weather forecasts suggest continued rainfall in the coming days.
