Recent torrential rains combined with the controlled spillage of the Weija-Gbawe Dam have left more than 1,000 homes submerged and displaced over 1,000 residents across parts of the Greater Accra Region.

The disaster has severely affected communities including Weija, Ashalaja, Oblogo, Tetegu, and sections of Osu, where families are struggling to cope with rising floodwaters and destruction of property.

In the Weija-Gbawe enclave, excess water release from the dam has inundated residential areas, forcing hundreds of households to evacuate to higher ground. Some residents have resorted to using canoes to move through flooded streets. The Member of Parliament for the area confirmed the scale of destruction, noting that over 1,000 households have been impacted.
